Late last night in Oak Cliff, a house fire ripped through a one-story home, leaving two people critically injured and three animals dead, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. Crews were dispatched shortly before 9:30 p.m. and arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters pulled two people from the burning home and rushed them to local hospitals, where both were listed in critical condition. It took crews nearly an hour to bring the blaze under control as investigators launched an origin-and-cause probe.
Firefighters Battled a Fully Involved Home
According to CBS News Texas, Dallas Fire-Rescue units were called to the 6600 block of Starkey Street and immediately began rescue operations as flames consumed the one-story home. Officials told the outlet that firefighters worked for nearly an hour to extinguish the blaze and that three animals inside the house did not survive. The department said crews pulled both victims from the structure and transported them to nearby hospitals.
Victim Status And Immediate Aftermath
“Both victims were in critical condition,” Dallas Fire-Rescue said, adding that names had not been released as of this morning. CBS News Texas reported that firefighters and investigators remained on scene as they processed the property and continued the origin-and-cause investigation. Neighbors said emergency lights flooded the block while ambulances and fire trucks staged nearby.
Local Context: Another Deadly Oak Cliff Blast
The fire comes just two weeks after a separate Oak Cliff disaster: an apartment explosion last Thursday that leveled a two-story complex and killed three people, triggering a multi-agency investigation. The Dallas Morning News reported that crews from Dallas Fire-Rescue and utility teams worked at that earlier blast site as neighbors searched for information and temporary shelter. City officials have said investigations into both incidents are ongoing and have not linked them to one another.
Investigators said they will release more information as it becomes available and urged anyone with knowledge of the fire to contact authorities. For now, the block remains cordoned off while crews finish their work at the scene. Neighbors described a swift and heavy response as firefighters fought the flames.
