Old Town Auburn is about to get a new go-to for cheese-skirt tacos. Banzito’s Tacos, the Sacramento-area favorite that made its name with a food truck and festival pop-ups, is stepping out of the mobile grind and into its first permanent storefront.
Banzito’s picks Old Town for its first storefront
After years of chasing crowds at fairs, taprooms and Kings games, Banzito’s is finally putting down roots. As reported by Sacramento Business Journal, the taco outfit has chosen Old Town Auburn for its debut brick-and-mortar location. The June 25 report identifies the project as Banzito’s first stand-alone shop in the region.
From truck to taproom
Owner Adam Saldaña has already taken one big step toward a fixed home base by moving operations into Knee Deep Brewing’s Auburn taproom. That partnership gave the crew a stable setting while a full restaurant concept took shape. Saldaña told The Sacramento Bee that working out of Knee Deep provided indoor and outdoor seating and let the team lean into a "cantina-style atmosphere."
When and what to expect
The next phase is close. Banzito’s website is now teasing, "OUR FIRST BRICK AND MORTAR OPENS THIS FALL!" and urges fans to watch its Instagram for rollout details, according to Banzito's Tacos. The site also continues to list "Banzito’s at Knee Deep" with regular hours, a sign that the taproom setup and truck service will keep running while the Old Town space is readied.
Old Town’s food scene gets another player
Old Town Auburn’s compact historic district already packs in shops, galleries and dining that pull in both locals and weekend visitors, according to Visit Auburn. A permanent Banzito’s presence could tap into festival and Saturday market traffic and offer another casual stop for the corridor’s steady stream of tasting-room and event-goers.
Details on the exact Old Town address and opening date are still limited in Banzito’s public updates. For now, the initial news on the Auburn storefront comes from Sacramento Business Journal, while fans can keep checking Banzito’s website and Instagram for rollout timing.
