Others Coffee, the Adams Morgan roaster that has been operating as a low-key weekend pop-up, is turning its small counter into a full-fledged, purpose-built coffee bar. The owners say the revamp is designed to support longer hours, a bigger menu, and a dedicated espresso setup for the neighborhood.
Build-out Details
As reported by Sprudge, the new bar will cover roughly 500 square feet and is being designed by architect Werner Brito, with Javid Farazad of Otto Construction serving as general contractor. The team plans to retire its La Marzocco GS3, which currently runs off a five-gallon water jug, in favor of a plumbed-in La Marzocco Linea Classic EE. They also intend to add a second grinder, install undercounter refrigeration and an ice machine, and bring in a Hive brewer to bolster their filter and batch-style options.
From Pop-Up To A Permanent Counter
Others Coffee was founded by Ashley May and Brian Raupp and launched online on National Coffee Day in 2020. According to Others Coffee, the pair is still running the Adams Morgan counter as a pop-up while construction continues. The shop at 1722 Florida Ave NW will remain active for events and weekend service as they rework the space to support longer hours and a more complete menu.
Sustainability And Community
Sprudge also notes that the owners plan to partner with a local urban farm to compost their spent coffee grounds. They will continue to encourage reusable cups, with customers welcome to bring their own, as part of what they describe as a modest sustainability push. The equipment and community-focused upgrades, the owners say, are intended to keep the cafe feeling creative and firmly rooted in the neighborhood even as the build-out progresses.
There is no firm opening date yet. The owners describe the project as an incremental build that has to coexist with family life and ongoing pop-up programming. As the shop's "Others Cafe" page sums it up: "What's next? We build," and the team says it will share timing updates as construction moves forward.
