The Kimpton Miralina Resort & Villas in Paradise Valley is gearing up for another round of upgrades, with plans for a private hotel enclave and a big-name Japanese restaurant on the way. It is the latest move in the resort’s multi-year reinvention into a desert-luxury playground aimed at drawing both locals and out-of-town guests.
According to Phoenix Business Journal, the next phase of a $70 million renovation will bring in a hotel-within-a-hotel concept and Katsuya, a widely known Japanese restaurant brand. The outlet’s June 23, 2026 report notes that these additions are part of Miralina’s continuing overhaul.
What’s Already Open at Miralina
Miralina has been rolling out its food-and-beverage lineup since late 2025. Hecho Libre, a Baja-meets-Sonoran concept from chef Wes Avila, opened in preview at the resort months before the hotel’s public debut, according to PRWeb. PR Newswire reported that the property’s debut followed a multi‑million‑dollar reimagining of the former Scottsdale Plaza Resort.
Hotel-Within-A-Hotel: What That Means
The hotel‑within‑a‑hotel setup typically carves out a cluster of rooms, private check‑in and exclusive amenities inside a larger resort so operators can sell a more intimate, higher‑priced experience. Local properties have already tested versions of this idea, including Hotel Valley Ho’s Tower revamp and The Phoenician’s Canyon Suites, showing how Miralina might position its new wing, according to Northstar Meetings Group.
Ownership And The Bigger Picture
Kimpton Miralina is part of IHG’s Kimpton portfolio and operates under joint ownership by Partners Group and Trinity Investments, with Highgate managing the resort, per IHG. The resort’s partnership with lifestyle operator sbe helped shape the food-and-beverage programming; PRWeb notes that collaboration is what brought Chef Wes Avila’s Hecho Libre to the property.
Phoenix Business Journal described the planned Katsuya and the private wing as the “next step” in Miralina’s redevelopment, but did not list a firm opening date. The resort’s own site currently highlights Hecho Libre and other venues but does not yet show Katsuya, leaving the opening timeline unclear for now. We will update as official details emerge. Miralina Resort and Phoenix Business Journal have more on the development.
