HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland is gearing up for a $60 million expansion that hospital leaders say will double the facility's footprint, add 44 inpatient beds and create eight new emergency treatment spaces. The project also includes an upgraded operating room, expanded EMS access and modernized clinical areas, all pitched as a way to ease long emergency room waits and give nurses and care teams more breathing room and resources.

In a December news release from HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland, the system outlined a build that will fold in upgraded utilities and additional support infrastructure designed to work seamlessly with existing units. The release lists the key additions as 44 inpatient beds, a newly upgraded operating room and eight new emergency room treatment spaces. “This investment reflects our deep belief in the future of this region,” CEO Elias Armendariz said in the release.

Timeline And Hospital Leaders Weigh In

HCA Pearland spokesperson Monica Coleman told Community Impact that construction is scheduled to start in December 2026 and is expected to take about 18 months to wrap up. Chief Nursing Officer Jenn Bowman wrote in an email that “this expansion represents more than additional space—it means more resources, improved workflows and an enhanced environment to care for patients with compassion and excellence.”

Community Impact also highlighted federal data showing that nationally, the median emergency room visit runs roughly 160 minutes, while HCA Pearland clocks in at about 141 minutes from arrival to discharge or admission. The implication from hospital leadership is that even with comparatively shorter waits, the pressure on the ER is high enough that more space and updated facilities are not a luxury.

Growth Along The 288 Corridor And Capacity Pressures

The expansion will rise on HCA's campus along the SH 288 corridor, a stretch that has been filling in fast as Pearland and the greater Houston area add housing and jobs, according to the city's economic development office. The Pearland Economic Development Corporation notes that the hospital campus covers roughly 48 acres and has become a focal point for local health care investment.

Industry coverage has framed the Pearland build as part of a broader wave of hospital expansions across the Houston region as systems try to keep pace with population growth and staffing strains. Capital Analytics Associates reported on the Pearland announcement alongside other major health care projects across the metro.

Hospital officials say the larger emergency department and additional beds should give clinicians more room to handle high patient volumes, although they acknowledge that staffing and day to day logistics will ultimately determine how much those changes cut wait times. With an 18 month construction schedule beginning in December 2026, crews are expected to be at work on the campus into mid 2028, according to Community Impact.
