A Tuesday night gun mishap on Stockmill Road sent a Pikesville man to the hospital, according to Baltimore County police.
Officers were called around 9 p.m. to the unit block of Stockmill Road, where they found an adult man suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said the adult who had been handling the firearm stayed at the scene while detectives launched an investigation.
The Baltimore County Police Violent Crimes Unit is leading the probe and has described the discharge as accidental, FOX45 reports. Emergency crews confirmed the man had one gunshot wound before he was taken to the hospital, according to the same outlet.
Neighborhood context
This latest scare lands in a community that has already been rattled by gunfire this month. Earlier in June, a separate exchange of shots in the Pikesville area left a Baltimore County officer, a suspect, and a bystander injured, as reported by WBAL.
In coverage of the June 7 scene, investigators asked residents who might have information to contact Baltimore County police or Metro Crime Stoppers.
Investigators working the case
Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit are still piecing together what happened in Tuesday night’s accidental shooting, and officials have not released additional details about the circumstances, according to FOX45. Authorities say they will share more information as the investigation moves forward.
