A man died Tuesday after his vehicle flipped into a creek in the Pittsburgh area, according to authorities. Emergency crews rushed to the water’s edge, where local TV cameras captured responders clustered along the bank as they worked the scene. Officials did not immediately release the driver’s name or specify which creek was involved in the initial reports.
As reported by CBS News Pittsburgh, KDKA-TV reporter Megan Shinn shared a brief video from the site and said officials had confirmed the driver had died. The station noted that only limited information was available in the immediate aftermath.
Recent crashes into local waterways
The fatal wreck adds to a troubling run of serious crashes into Pittsburgh-area waterways this year, a reminder of how quickly a vehicle that leaves the road can end up in deep trouble. In January, a vehicle went off the Parkway East and plunged into the Monongahela River. The driver was pulled from the water and later died, WPXI reported. Pennsylvania State Police later told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that investigators found alcohol and excessive speed were factors in that earlier crash.
Investigation underway
The CBS News Pittsburgh report said investigators remained on scene at the creek and had not immediately identified a cause of Tuesday’s crash. Officials had not released further information about the victim or the circumstances of the wreck at the time of that report.
