A man wanted on an aggravated-stalking warrant was taken into custody Friday after leading Sandy Springs officers on a high-speed chase in a Porsche Cayenne along Georgia 400. Officers brought the pursuit to a halt just before the Northridge Road exit by using a PIT maneuver, and several police vehicles were damaged in the process. Authorities said no one was hurt.
According to WSB-TV, Sandy Springs police said the driver hit the gas when officers tried to pull him over, turning the stretch of GA-400 into a brief chase scene. NewsChopper 2 footage later showed several marked cruisers with visible damage, and investigators told the station they had not yet identified the driver.
Police Response And Units Involved
Per the Sandy Springs Police Department, the agency fields a dedicated Traffic Unit along with specialized response teams trained in high-speed stops and pursuit tactics such as the PIT maneuver used Friday. The department lists its headquarters at 620 Morgan Falls Road and provides online forms and phone contacts for residents who want to submit tips, photos, or video.
Why This Stretch Of GA-400 Keeps Cops Busy
Georgia 400 cuts through the north metro as a major commuter artery and has been the focus of heavy construction and enforcement, including recent express-lane work that has reshaped traffic patterns, according to a Hoodline report. Sandy Springs officers have used PIT maneuvers in previous pursuits along this corridor, a tactic that departments describe as a last-resort tool to stop dangerous drivers when other options are limited, as documented by FOX5 Atlanta.
Legal Implications
Aggravated stalking is a felony under Georgia law. O.C.G.A. § 16-5-91 makes aggravated stalking punishable by one to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. WSB-TV reported that investigators had not yet identified the driver in Friday’s chase, and early coverage did not list any additional charges beyond the outstanding aggravated-stalking warrant.
Sandy Springs police are asking anyone with dash-cam or cellphone video of the pursuit to contact investigators through the department’s online reporting page or by calling the non-emergency number listed on the police website. This story will be updated as officials release more information.
