Portland is getting ready to throw what might be its most on-brand party yet on Sunday, July 19, 2026, when BIKETOWN and the Portland Bureau of Transportation aim to set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest electric bicycle party and ride. Riders are invited to meet at the Salmon Springs Fountain in Tom McCall Waterfront Park at 8:30 a.m., with wheels set to roll at 9:30 a.m. The route is a roughly two-mile loop that will head over Tilikum Crossing, cruise the Eastbank Esplanade, and return on the Hawthorne Bridge.
Where the record stands
Right now, Portland is chasing a number: 405. That is the current GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest parade of electric bicycles, set by the Cascade Bicycle Club in Seattle on Sept. 15, 2018, according to Guinness World Records. Organizers in Portland will need to top that total when riders head out in July.
Event logistics and registration
The Portland Bureau of Transportation is coordinating the official attempt and is asking participants to register in advance so every rider can be counted for the GUINNESS tally, as highlighted in a post from the Portland Bureau of Transportation on X. PBOT’s news release notes that BIKETOWN has deployed roughly 3,000 electric pedal-assist bicycles across its service area and that Lyft operates the system with NIKE as the title sponsor; the release also includes customer-service contact information for riders who have questions. Organizers say the first 1,000 people who register will receive free entry to the Portland Pride Festival as part of the celebration.
Why the ride matters
BIKETOWN launched on July 19, 2016, and this 10th-birthday ride lines up with a city effort to swap the current bikes for newer Cosmo e-bikes, according to reporting by Axios Portland. City officials are pitching the Guinness attempt as both a milestone birthday bash and a way to make using e-bikes for everyday transportation feel normal in more neighborhoods.
Practical details
Check-in for the record attempt starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Salmon Springs Fountain, and the slow, family-friendly loop is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Organizers strongly encourage riders to register beforehand so they are included in the official GUINNESS count. For accessibility support, program details, or BIKETOWN for All information, PBOT lists [email protected] and a customer-service line at 503-823-4000 on its news page. Helmets are recommended, and both personal e-bikes and BIKETOWN bikes are welcome to join the roll-out.
