A quiet South Kent street turned into a crime scene before sunrise Wednesday as police opened an investigation into the suspicious death of a woman on Alder Lane.
Kent officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Alder Lane at about 4:20 a.m. after a 911 caller reported hearing shots fired. When officers arrived, they found an unconscious female with visible injuries to her face and head. Officers began lifesaving medical aid, later joined by medics, but the woman did not survive. Police have not released her age or identity.
Multiple patrol officers locked down the area while detectives took over the case, according to a Kent Police news release reported by Kent Reporter. As of Wednesday, investigators had not confirmed whether the woman was struck by gunfire or died from another cause. Detectives are continuing to gather physical evidence and interview witnesses as the inquiry moves forward.
Medical Examiner To Pinpoint Cause And Manner
The King County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death and will release the woman’s identity when appropriate, in line with its standard procedures. The office handles sudden, violent and suspicious deaths in King County and performs autopsies when needed, according to the King County Medical Examiner's Office.
