
Emergency crews in Cary pulled a woman from a pond behind a home Monday afternoon, where she was pronounced dead as police began their investigation.
Responders were called just after 1:30 p.m. to the 8000 block of Piney Branch Drive and found the woman in the water behind the house. Her death is being treated as an apparent drowning while detectives work to piece together what happened.
According to ABC11, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities had released no additional details as of Monday night. The Cary Police Department is handling the case and has not identified the victim.
Investigators Seek Answers
This incident follows another water-related death in Cary earlier this spring. On April 25, rescuers pulled a man from MacGregor Downs Lake, and he later died, a case WRAL reported was also described as a drowning and still under review. Taken together, the two cases serve as a stark reminder of how quickly neighborhood ponds and lakes can become dangerous.
