An early morning fire ripped through a landscaping business along Redmond–Fall City Road (State Route 202) on Wednesday, destroying two buildings and about 15 vehicles and forcing a shutdown of part of the busy corridor as crews fought the flames in the dark.
Officials shared new details in a video, telling KIRO 7 that multiple 911 calls started coming in around 3 a.m., quickly escalating the response to a two-alarm commercial fire. Eastside Fire & Rescue led the effort, with mutual aid from Bellevue, Fall City and Snoqualmie. KIRO 7 reported the business is in the 27900 block of Redmond–Fall City Road. Authorities said investigators were on scene and that no injuries had been reported.
Tricky Water Supply Adds to Firefight
Redmond planning documents note that outlying corridors such as the Ames Lake area rely on long water mains and supplemental tactics, conditions that can slow efforts to knock down large commercial fires and that often require water-tender support. The City of Redmond Fire Functional Plan highlights hydrant coverage gaps, flow shortfalls and the need for drafting or shuttle operations as key priorities for capital investment.
Road Closures Snarl the Morning Drive
The Washington State Department of Transportation closed SR 202 at NE Tolt Hill Road while crews remained on scene, and drivers were urged to use alternate routes, as reported by KIRO 7. Officials said removing hazards and chasing down hot spots, including fuel tanks and equipment on the property, could keep the site closed for several hours while firefighters make the area safe.
What Happens Next
Fire investigators will continue to process the scene to determine a cause, and cleanup and damage assessment are expected to take days. For official updates on road conditions and the investigation, residents are asked to follow Eastside Fire & Rescue and the City of Redmond.
