Columbus police locked down a residential intersection in the Oakland Park neighborhood late yesterday after a reported shooting, blocking traffic and combing the area for clues.
Officers and emergency crews taped off Blan Street at Howe Avenue, where they were seen photographing the scene and collecting evidence. As detectives worked the area, authorities had not yet released any information about possible victims or injuries.
According to CNAW 2 News, first responders were dispatched around 10:25 p.m. yesterday. Crime-scene tape blocked off the intersection while ambulances and fire trucks staged nearby, and it remained unclear whether anyone had been hurt.
Where it happened
The intersection of Blan Street and Howe Avenue sits inside Columbus's Oakland Park neighborhood, an area that has dealt with recurring violence and growing resident frustration in recent years.
Back in January 2024, WTVM reported on a double homicide that reignited demands for more visible community policing. Earlier incidents along nearby Oakland Park Avenue have also kept the neighborhood on law-enforcement radar. Coverage such as Oakland Park Ave. Shooting Arrest underscored a pattern of repeat police responses in the area.
Police response
As of the initial report, Columbus police had not issued a formal public statement on the latest incident. CNAW 2 News noted that detectives were processing the scene and canvassing the neighborhood for potential witnesses.
Officials typically release more detailed information after completing preliminary interviews and evidence collection, and investigators are asking anyone with relevant information to contact authorities.
This is a developing story, and more details will be added as officials make them available.
