San Jose woke up under a gray blanket this morning, with temperatures hovering near 59°F at San Jose International Airport (KSJC), but the clouds are not sticking around. Skies are expected to clear for a sunny afternoon and a high near 82°F. Light northwest breezes will strengthen through the day, with gustier winds funneled through the hills and valley gaps. Tonight should stay mostly clear with a low near 56°F.
Afternoon Temperatures And Wind
Temperatures are on an upward climb through the week, with interior neighborhoods headed for the mid to upper 80s and the hottest inland spots likely topping out near or just above 90°F by Wednesday. The coast and bayshore will dodge the worst of the heat, holding in the 60s and 70s.
Beach Hazards And Surf
A long-period southerly swell is churning up trouble along Pacific-facing beaches, and a Beach Hazards Statement is in effect through Wednesday afternoon, due to an elevated risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents. Give jetties, piers, and rocky outcrops plenty of space, and never turn your back on the surf, since surprise waves and rip currents can grab people right off the shore. More details are posted by the National Weather Service.
Plan Ahead
Shifting outdoor plans to the cooler morning hours, keeping water handy, and checking in on heat-sensitive neighbors will go a long way as inland temperatures peak midweek. If you park or store equipment near low-lying bayside spots, it may be worth moving vehicles before late-night high tides, since minor flooding has already been reported on some low-lying roads. Boaters and small-craft operators should follow local marine advisories and keep safety gear readily available.
