A late Sunday night in Hewlett Neck turned chaotic when a group on scooters and a bicycle allegedly turned a quiet block into their own target of opportunity, Nassau County police say. Two Manhattan teens and two others were arrested after officers reportedly spotted them rummaging through a vehicle and entering a residential garage, then tried to stop them as they rolled away on three scooters and a bike.
Police say the group tried to bolt when officers moved in. One 18-year-old allegedly ignored repeated commands and was subdued with an electronic control device. He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, where he later allegedly spat at and headbutted an officer. The officer was treated for injuries, and detectives say the investigation is still active.
Arrest, Resistance and Hospital Evaluation
According to Five Towns Daily Voice, Nassau County police identified the two adult suspects as Emmanuel Rivera and Quadir Ingram, both 18 and from Manhattan. Officers responded after reports of people searching a parked car and entering an open garage, then found the group nearby and moved to make arrests.
Police allege that Ingram refused verbal commands, prompting officers to deploy an electronic control device. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment, where authorities say he later spat at and headbutted an officer. The officer received medical care for injuries that police linked to the incident.
Stolen Scooters and the Attempted Getaway
Police told reporters the scooters and the bicycle the group used had been reported stolen. Officers say the suspects were riding three scooters and a bike before abandoning them and trying to flee on foot once police closed in.
5 Towns Central reports that two 17-year-old girls were also arrested in connection with the case. Police say the juveniles were charged with petit larceny and released on appearance tickets. Detectives later linked items found in the group’s possession to outstanding theft reports, and the probe continued.
Charges and Next Steps
Per police reports, Rivera and Ingram were each charged with burglary and two counts of petit larceny. Ingram faces an additional assault charge tied to the alleged attack on the officer.
The defendants were scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead. Authorities emphasized that the charges remain allegations unless and until they are proven in court. Nassau detectives say the investigation is ongoing and that more information may be released as the case moves forward.
