Shelby burrito runs are about to get a whole lot shorter. Chipotle is set to open its first Cleveland County restaurant on East Dixon Boulevard, bringing a Chipotlane pickup lane and indoor seating to a small retail strip on the town’s east side. The grand opening is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, giving locals a closer option than the current Charlotte-area spots, in a building tucked beside McAlister's Deli. For Shelby residents, it is a noticeable upgrade to the local quick-service lineup.
The Shelby Star reported the opening date and location, noting that the restaurant is Cleveland County’s first Chipotle. The paper describes the new spot as sharing a retail pad with McAlister's Deli and frames the opening as a long-awaited convenience for fans of burritos, bowls and everything that comes with the chain’s build-your-own format.
Chipotle’s own store finder backs that up, listing the Shelby restaurant at 1317 E Dixon Blvd and tagging it as “Coming Soon,” according to Chipotle. That listing confirms the basic footprint and general position in the east-side shopping strip.
What the Chipotlane means for pickup
The Shelby location will include a Chipotlane, a pickup lane designed for app and online orders that lets drivers grab pre-paid meals without leaving their cars. As explained by Restaurant Dive, Chipotle has been rolling out Chipotlanes at new restaurants to speed digital pickup and ease congestion inside the dining room. Unlike a traditional drive-thru, customers have to place their orders in advance through the Chipotle app or website before pulling into the lane.
Where it sits and what’s next
The new restaurant occupies a small retail building on East Dixon that, according to a commercial listing, is leased to both Chipotle and McAlister’s Deli. A LoopNet offering for 1315 E Dixon Blvd lists both tenants and lays out lease terms for the strip, giving a snapshot of the property layout and tenant mix. The Shelby Star has also noted that, until now, many Cleveland County residents were driving to Chipotle locations in Gastonia and Forest City, so the Shelby store should trim that travel time considerably.
The Shelby Chipotle is expected to offer the chain’s standard menu and its usual digital ordering tools, including in-store app pickup and Chipotlane pickup for pre-paid orders. Residents looking for details on hours, hiring, or any opening-day promotions can keep an eye on Chipotle’s store page and local coverage for updates. We’ll follow up if the company releases more information on staffing or formal grand-opening events.
