Police shot a person on Detroit’s west side Thursday evening, triggering a heavy law enforcement presence around the 18900 block of Rosemont Avenue near West Seven Mile Road, authorities said. Officers set up a staging area at the intersection while investigators worked the scene. Officials have not said what led up to the shooting or released the person’s condition.
According to ClickOnDetroit, Local 4 crews were on the way to the area as the Detroit Police Department’s media relations team responded. The outlet reported that additional information would be provided, including a media briefing with sound available. ClickOnDetroit also noted that, at that point, authorities had not released details about whether officers fired their weapons.
What investigators are doing
The city’s police website lists a Media Relations office and an Office of Chief Investigator that handle major incidents and public communications, per the Detroit Police Department. Those units typically coordinate scene security, oversee evidence collection and organize briefings for reporters. Officials have not given a timeline for when more information about Thursday’s shooting will be released.
West-side context
The incident unfolds amid a recent run of shootings on Detroit’s west side. In a June 11 report, West Detroit Block Rocked described a separate case that left a 20-year-old hospitalized and led to multiple arrests, underscoring ongoing concerns about neighborhood gun violence.
Legal review and next steps
Officer-involved shootings are investigated internally by department units and may be reviewed by county prosecutors or, in some cases, the state attorney general. The Michigan Attorney General’s office has previously taken on such reviews in Detroit. The AG's office published a detailed review of a 2025 officer-involved shooting in the city.
City officials have said they will release more information at a media briefing once investigators finish processing the scene, according to ClickOnDetroit.
