The suspect is described as a Black man in his early 20s with a skinny build, short dreadlocks, and a thin mustache and chin beard. According to the department's release, the suspect punched the victim, causing the person to lose consciousness, then took off on foot with cash. The incident location, 422 E. 6th Street outside Mala Fama, matches the club's public address.

Downtown nightlife context
East Sixth and nearby Rainey Street have seen a run of robbery and drugging cases in recent years, and police say video and community tips are often what crack those investigations. Previous coverage from FOX 7 Austin detailed downtown drugging and robbery rings where arrests came after tipsters shared what they knew and investigators pieced together surveillance footage.
For this latest case, APD is again leaning on the public. Tips for the Robbery Unit can be called in at 512-974-5092 or submitted anonymously to Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477. Media inquiries are being handled by APD's Public Information Office at 512-974-5017. Detectives also urged anyone who has video from around East Sixth Street on the morning of May 26 to hold onto it for investigators.
