
A 28-year-old man riding a skateboard was struck and killed by a pickup Friday on North Oso Blanca Road in northwest Las Vegas, police said. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene near West Montecito Pointe Drive, close to Centennial Hills Hospital, after a witness discovered the body and called police, according to authorities.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, investigators said the vehicle that hit the man was a Ram pickup traveling southbound on Oso Blanca. Metro officers later located the pickup as they searched the area, but had not yet identified or arrested a driver, the paper reported. Collision investigators are treating the case as a hit-and-run.
Vehicle Located, Driver Still Sought
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section is asking anyone with information to call (702) 828-3595 or (702) 828-3060, or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Detectives are particularly interested in hearing from drivers with dash-cam footage and residents who were in the area of Oso Blanca and Montecito Pointe around the time of the crash.
Fleeing the Scene Carries Serious Penalties
Under Nevada law (NRS 484E.010), failing to stop after a crash that causes injury or death can be charged as a felony, and the statute requires drivers involved in such collisions to stop and provide information to authorities.
