What began as a routine traffic stop on South Grand Boulevard turned into an afternoon standoff Monday, leaving three St. Louis police officers injured and a woman in custody after she barricaded herself inside a car near Russell Avenue, police said. Part of South Grand was shut down while officers worked to bring the situation under control.
According to the St. Louis Post‑Dispatch, the confrontation ended with the woman under arrest and three officers hurt. The paper published a photograph by Liz Rymarev that captured the heavy police presence lining the south‑city corridor as the incident unfolded.
Standoff and street closures
KMOV reported that the woman fled a traffic stop and then barricaded herself in the 2100 block of South Grand, prompting officers to shut down the stretch from Russell Avenue to Shenandoah Avenue. Police called in additional resources to secure the area and keep bystanders at a distance while they negotiated a peaceful resolution.
Officers' condition and next steps
Authorities have not yet released detailed information about the extent of the officers' injuries or whether additional charges may follow, according to the St. Louis Post‑Dispatch. Investigators are reviewing what happened, and the department has said it plans to brief the media once more information is available.
