A homicide investigation is underway along the 2500 block of South Lamar Boulevard, with Austin police confirming Wednesday that officers are on scene and a formal media briefing is in the works, though details on when and where that briefing will happen have not yet been set.
What APD Posted
The Austin Police Department announced the case in a post on X, signing the notice "PIO3." According to the Austin Police Department, the message stated in part, "APD officers are investigating a homicide in the 2500 block of S Lamar Blvd." As of that post, officials had not released information on the victim or any suspected cause of death.
Where This Happened
South Lamar is a busy, mixed-use corridor packed with restaurants, music venues and apartment complexes, and it has seen violence before. The city’s press archive notes a July 2025 homicide at Kerby Lane, 3003 S Lamar Boulevard, that required a homicide response and later led to an arrest, according to the City of Austin. Residents and business owners in the area often tell reporters they worry about late-night safety, while police stress that investigations in the corridor vary widely from case to case.
Recent Cases Around Austin
This latest callout lands amid a run of violent investigations across the city, including a June 16 double-fatality in southeast Austin that APD described as a domestic incident. FOX 7 Austin reported on that case, and the station also covered a separate May 30 incident in which a man was found dead inside a trash can in South Austin. Local reporters say detectives in these kinds of investigations routinely urge anyone with video or other information to come forward.
