Police: Shooting On South State
According to CBS Chicago, the shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. in the 8700 block of South State Street. Police said the pair heard two shots, realized they had been hit, and then drove nearly two miles west to the 8700 block of South Ada Street to get help.
Authorities said the 18-year-old was shot in the thigh and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, while the 49-year-old was shot in the leg and taken to OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Evergreen Park. Both men were reported in good condition. No one was in custody as Calumet Area detectives opened an investigation.
Another Violent Week For Chatham
The shooting adds to a string of gun violence in Chatham in recent days. As reported when bullets ripped through a Chatham home early Friday, a 37-year-old woman was killed and a 17-year-old boy was wounded. Local outlets have tracked multiple shootings in the neighborhood this spring.
ABC7 Chicago documented an April shooting in East Chatham that left two people critically wounded, highlighting a pattern that police say detectives are working to disrupt.
Investigation Ongoing
Calumet Area detectives are handling the case and had not reported any arrests as of Monday morning, according to CBS Chicago. Police typically urge anyone with information to contact CPD or submit anonymous tips, which investigators say can help them connect shootings that unfold across several blocks.
