Besitos Café, the family-run Mexican spot on San Antonio’s South Side, is closing its doors after less than a year in business, with its final day of service set for Sunday, July 12. The owners say several months of slow customer traffic and low sales finally forced their hand.
In a Facebook post shared June 25, the café told followers, “We have been incredibly slow the last few months and we aren't able to make it,” and thanked regulars for becoming “part of our story.” As reported by MySA, the owners marked July 12 as the last day of service and asked neighbors to consider buying the artwork that lines the café’s walls.
Opening and what Besitos offered
Besitos opened on Nov. 1, 2025, with a ribbon cutting and a live mariachi performance, launched by founders Devin and Eduardo Morin as a culture-forward neighborhood hangout. According to KSAT, the café leaned into Día de los Muertos inspired design, while its website highlighted breakfast tacos, tortas and playful specialty lattes as key menu draws.
Why the owners say business slowed
The Morins point to a persistent lack of foot traffic in recent months as the main reason for shuttering, saying business had been “incredibly slow.” MySA also reported that the owners are keeping the artwork on the walls available for purchase through the closing date as a way to support the local artists whose pieces have filled the space.

The loss of Besitos adds to a growing list of local restaurant and retail closures that coverage has linked to shifting downtown patterns, construction and other pressures bearing down on small businesses.
