Southwest San Antonio is about to lose a bright-yellow landmark. Nick's Tacos, the faith-based taqueria on New Laredo Highway, will close its brick-and-mortar shop at the end of June, with the final day of service set for June 30, the owners announced.
The closure comes just as the restaurant hit its two-year mark at the storefront. In a heartfelt Facebook post, co-owner Pastor Regina Navarro wrote that her family had "invested countless tears, sweat and blood" into the business, as reported by MySA. Navarro and her husband said they "tried to hold on as much as we could" and laid out a short goodbye schedule, with limited service on June 19, 20, 25 and 27 before the kitchen goes quiet on June 30.
A neighborhood fixture and outreach hub
Nick's Tacos & Catering has been a small but steady presence in San Antonio's food scene, most recently operating out of the eye-catching New Laredo Highway spot. The business has doubled as a community hub, organizing fundraisers and giveaways, including plate sales and backpack drives after local emergencies, as reported by KSAT.
For regulars, it was the kind of place where tacos shared space with prayer and outreach, a mix that helped turn a small taqueria into a go-to stop for both food and support when neighbors needed it.
What is next for the owners
Navarro and her family are not walking away from their mission, just the building. They said they plan to continue their fundraising work, including a backpack giveaway for students and a homeless ministry, and that Nick's will remain available for catering while they search for a new home for the restaurant, per MySA.
The taqueria is listed at 606 New Laredo Highway on mapping and directory sites such as MapQuest, a detail that will soon be a digital echo of a neighborhood spot that once buzzed with customers.
The owners thanked customers and neighbors for their support and said they remain committed to serving the community, even without a physical dining room. Information on final service dates and catering options was shared in their announcement and reflected in the restaurant's online listings.
