A 15-year-old girl was killed on Saturday when the electric scooter she was riding was struck by a car on U.S. 31 near the Saturn Parkway exit in Spring Hill. First responders performed CPR at the scene, but the teen later died from her injuries. Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
The collision happened Saturday, June 27, on U.S. 31 (Main Street) near the exit ramp to SR 396 (Saturn Parkway), according to WZTV. The outlet reports the teen suffered fatal injuries and that investigators are still working to understand what led up to the crash.
Williamson Source, citing WKRN, reported the scooter was traveling southbound when it was struck from behind by a Nissan Rogue. According to that report, the Rogue was driven by a 47-year-old woman from Lebanon, and the posted speed limit on that stretch of Highway 31 is 55 mph. No arrests have been announced.
State Law and Safety
Tennessee law defines "electric foot scooters" in state traffic statutes and explicitly allows counties and municipalities to regulate or ban their use within local boundaries, according to the Tennessee Legislature. Local governments can set their own rules on where scooters are allowed, whether helmets are required, and whether riders can use sidewalks or must stay on the road.
What We Know and What Is Next
Williamson Source reports that no arrests have been announced in connection with the crash and that officials have not released the victim's name. WZTV says investigators are continuing to process the scene and interview witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.
