A postgame walk back from the Spurs-Knicks NBA Finals matchup ended violently for one visitor early Sunday, when a guest at Hotel Valencia Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio was allegedly assaulted outside the property and briefly hospitalized, according to hotel staff.
Hotel's account and timeline
According to KSAT, a Hotel Valencia Riverwalk spokesperson said the incident happened at about 12:30 a.m. as the guest was returning from the Spurs-Knicks NBA Finals game. Two people in a vehicle reportedly drove by and allegedly assaulted the guest outside the hotel at 150 East Houston Street.
The spokesperson told KSAT that officers were called, a police report was filed and the guest was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The guest has since been released. KSAT reported that no additional details were immediately available and that the station had reached out to the San Antonio Police Department for further comment.
Downtown safety context
The alleged assault comes amid broader concern about safety in tourist-heavy stretches of the River Walk. As reported by MySA, a November 2025 incident in which a passenger pepper-sprayed several people on a Go Rio river cruise left multiple victims injured and drew widespread attention to conditions along the popular riverfront.
Those kinds of episodes, officials and business owners say, have increased scrutiny of late-night crowd management and visitor safety in the area.
Patrols and public safety
The city maintains a dedicated Riverwalk Patrol through the San Antonio Park Police, which uses foot, bicycle and boat units to monitor the riverfront and nearby public spaces. According to the San Antonio Park Police, officers coordinate with local businesses and event organizers to help deter criminal activity and assist visitors during busy nights and special events.
Officials are encouraging anyone with information about Sunday’s alleged assault to contact law enforcement so investigators can follow up.
What officials say now
KSAT reports that the hotel has confirmed the guest was released from the hospital but has not provided any information about suspects or possible arrests. This story will be updated if the San Antonio Police Department or hotel representatives release additional details.
