A Sunday morning ride ended in tragedy on the northbound Western Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike in Rutherford, where a Staten Island motorcyclist was killed after losing control and being thrown from his bike, state police said. Troopers responded at about 9:30 a.m. and found the rider ejected from his motorcycle; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crash details
State troopers said they were called to the northbound Western Spur near milepost 111.6 for a report of a single-vehicle crash. Investigators believe the motorcycle lost directional control, overturned and struck a guardrail. According to News 12 New Jersey, the bike overturned and the rider was ejected.
Victim identified
As reported by Daily Voice Rutherford, state police identified the rider as Ardjent Shaini, 51, of Staten Island. According to state police, Shaini was operating a Kawasaki when he lost directional control and was ejected in the crash.
Investigation
The crash remains under investigation by the New Jersey State Police's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit. The New Jersey State Police notes on its fatal-crash page that investigations stay open until cases are completed and it maintains county-by-county crash statistics.
