A routine traffic stop in Poinciana on Monday night turned into a lot more than a simple ticket when a Polk County deputy discovered the driver was wanted out of Volusia County on serious felony charges.
According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, a traffic deputy pulled over a white 2002 GMC truck after it rolled through a stop sign at Muskrat Drive and Coyote Road at about 8:30 p.m. The driver was identified as 20-year-old Joshua Lopez-Morales of Orlando.
What started as a basic traffic infraction quickly escalated when deputies learned Lopez-Morales had an active warrant out of Volusia County. The warrant, the sheriff's office says, lists charges of robbery, battery, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Lopez-Morales was cited for the stop sign violation and taken into custody, then transported to the Polk County Sheriff's Processing Center.

Booking Process And Local Custody
The Polk County Sheriff's Office operates a jail inquiry and processing system that records who is in custody, the charges they face, and their current status. Individuals arrested by PCSO are generally processed through the county's detention facilities before any transfer to another county with an outstanding warrant. For booking details and custody status, the agency directs the public to its online system at the Polk County Sheriff's Office Jail Inquiry.
What Happens Next Legally
Because the warrant was issued in Volusia County, any prosecution on the robbery, battery, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges would go through prosecutors there. The Polk County Sheriff's Office post did not include information on bail or a court date. The traffic citation tied to the stop sign violation is a separate matter that will be handled in Polk County.
Formal charging documents, future hearings and case developments will appear in court records and Volusia County filings as the case moves forward.
