Sunday morning, June 14, started out sticky at Nashville International Airport (KBNA), with mostly cloudy skies, roughly 72°F, and plenty of humidity hanging in the air. A line of showers that moved into western Middle Tennessee overnight kept a few pockets of rain going, and another, stronger round of thunderstorms is expected to fire up across the region later today. You will want an umbrella close by and a backup plan for locally heavy downpours during the daytime commute.
Afternoon Storms And Gusty Winds
Showers and thunderstorms are likely across the metro Sunday, with the greatest coverage from late morning into the mid-to-late afternoon and a high near 87°F before temperatures slip back into the low 80s. West-southwest winds of 5 to 15 mph are expected, with gusts that could reach 25 mph. Heavier storms could quickly drop a quarter to a half-inch of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Spotty Severe Risk Then Cooler Air
Forecasters describe a marginal severe-risk area today, mainly across the Cumberland Plateau, where damaging straight-line winds would be the primary concern if storms manage to organize. Once a cold front moves through Sunday evening, much drier and noticeably cooler air arrives for Monday, June 15, bringing lower humidity, highs in the upper 70s, and only limited chances for rain.
What This Means For Plans
Outdoor events and afternoon plans should factor in scattered downpours and gusty winds, so secure canopies, keep an eye on the sky, and expect slick spots on the roads under heavier cells.
