Cincinnati is slogging through a warm, soupy start Friday, with mostly cloudy skies and about 69°F on the board at Lunken Field (KLUK) amid very high humidity. A line of showers, with a few thunderstorms tucked inside, is sliding through the metro early. The good news: it should wind down by mid-morning, and most neighborhoods are expected to see sunshine break out by late morning as slightly drier air nudges in and highs climb into the low-to-mid 80s.
There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. Friday, then mostly sunny skies and a high near 84°F, with west winds around 8 mph and only light rainfall expected where storms pass, according to the National Weather Service. The agency expects most new rainfall amounts this morning to stay under a tenth of an inch, though an isolated thunderstorm could briefly dump heavier rain.
Morning Commute
Early commuters should be ready for pockets of brief heavy rain and some lightning. Visibility can drop quickly in a downpour, and roads may be slick in spots. If you are on the road before 8 a.m., give yourself extra time and avoid driving through standing water. Skies should brighten by mid-morning, and the afternoon drive looks mostly dry.
Weekend Outlook
Saturday turns warmer and mostly sunny with a high near 87°F, but a secondary front is set to slip through late Saturday night into Sunday. That will bring a better chance of more widespread showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, with some spots picking up roughly a quarter to a half inch of rain. We covered the heat advisory and overnight storm risk in our coverage yesterday. See the heat index near 100 and storms on deck for more on those alerts.
What To Bring
Keep a light rain jacket or umbrella handy and have an indoor backup plan for outdoor activities this weekend, especially on Sunday when storms could be heavier. There are currently no active watches or warnings for the Cincinnati metro, but forecasts can change, so check for updates if you have events on the calendar.
