A routine Monday afternoon at a Downtown Summerlin bank turned tense when a man walked in, demanded money from tellers, and then bolted through the shopping center's parking lot, according to Las Vegas police.
The encounter unfolded in the 11000 block of Lavender Hill Drive, near Sahara Avenue and Pavilion Center Drive. Detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Robbery Section responded to the scene and opened an investigation.
Officers classified the incident as an attempted bank robbery after the suspect demanded cash and fled on foot, 8 News Now reported. Witnesses told police the man was last seen running through the parking lot while officers canvassed the area for leads.
Unsettling moment in a usually low-crime hub
Downtown Summerlin is a busy retail and dining destination that locals typically consider low-crime, but it is not immune to headline-grabbing incidents. In April, police released images after an armed robbery in a Summerlin parking garage, and Downtown Summerlin management said it was working closely with investigators, according to KTNV.

Anyone with information about Monday's incident - including surveillance or cellphone video - is urged to contact the LVMPD Robbery Section or Metro's nonemergency line at 702-828-3111, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department website. Tips can also be emailed to the department's public information office.
Case still open as detectives chase leads
Metro has not said whether any arrests have been made or released a suspect description, and 8 News Now reported that detectives are continuing to follow leads. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the encounter to come forward to help them reconstruct what happened inside the bank before the suspect took off through the lot.
