Fire crews rushed into southwest Portland Monday evening after a shed fire started threatening a nearby house, according to city firefighters. Multiple companies were sent in on the initial assignment as crews worked to keep flames from spreading into the residence. On the way to the call, one engine crew ended up peeling off after coming across a separate rollover crash.
Portland Fire's update
According to Portland Fire & Rescue, crews were dispatched to a shed fire in SW Portland that was "extending to a home." Truck 10 and mutual-aid units from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue were among the companies that reported heavy fire conditions when they arrived.
Engine 16 diverted after rollover
Portland Fire & Rescue said Engine 16 "dropped off the call" after the crew encountered a rollover accident while heading to the structure fire. The bureau did not immediately say whether anyone was injured in the crash or in connection with the shed fire.
What we still don't know
The bureau's post did not detail how the fire started, how much damage the house sustained, or whether anyone needed medical treatment. Officials typically release more information after investigators finish their on-scene work and file an incident report, so those answers may take a bit of time.
How neighbors can stay safe
Neighbors are urged to follow any temporary road closures, give emergency crews plenty of room to operate, and double-check that smoke alarms in their homes are working properly. For general fire-prevention tips and planning resources, visit Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue's safety guidance.
