
Philadelphia police are investigating after a 19-year-old man was shot and killed late Saturday night on a Frankford block that already has a grim reputation. Officers were called shortly before 11:30 p.m. to the 1700 block of Brill Street, where medics found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives say there have been no arrests and are asking neighbors to come forward as they work to piece together what happened.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, investigators believe surveillance video from the immediate area could be crucial in identifying suspects and reconstructing the moments leading up to the shooting. The station reports that authorities have not yet released the young man's name and that the city Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.
Brill Street Has Been The Scene Of Past Fatal Shootings
The 1700 block of Brill Street has seen deadly violence before. The Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit previously released surveillance footage and called for tips in connection with a 2022 homicide on the same block. The Philadelphia Inquirer and other outlets have documented a string of shootings in Frankford in recent years, highlighting longstanding safety concerns in parts of the neighborhood. Police told NBC10 Philadelphia that anyone who captured video in the area around the time of the shooting should save it and contact detectives.
