A routine welfare check in a quiet Texas City neighborhood turned into a homicide investigation Thursday afternoon after officers discovered a 42-year-old woman fatally shot inside a home, and a 73-year-old man now faces a murder charge in her death.
Texas City police say they were called around 3 p.m. to the 7200 block of Mallard Drive for a welfare concern. Inside the home, officers found Angela Gray with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Click2Houston.
Investigators arrested 73-year-old Lee Sims in connection with the shooting. Police say he was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Texas City Jail.
Suspect Charged, Bond Set
Texas City police have filed a murder charge against Sims, who is being held on a $250,000 bond, according to Click2Houston.
Authorities have not released any information about a possible motive or the relationship between Gray and Sims. Detectives say the investigation is active and ongoing and are asking the public to come forward with any details that might help fill in the gaps.
