
Midday gunfire on a Mooresville cul-de-sac ended with one man in the hospital and another in handcuffs, after a shooting on Serviceberry Way near Cornelius Road left a 46-year-old with a serious gunshot wound yesterday.
Police say the victim was treated at the scene, then taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Officers detained a 36-year-old identified as Benjamin Guerrero of Saginaw, Texas, and later arrested him on charges connected to the attack. Investigators have not yet determined what led up to the shooting.

Officers with the Mooresville Police Department were called to the area around 12:30 p.m., where they found the wounded man, according to WCCB Charlotte. The station reports the victim received on-scene treatment before being transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
Guerrero was detained at the scene and later charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, based on the account cited by WCCB Charlotte. Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Thursday’s shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents reported in Mooresville and the rest of Iredell County this year. Earlier in the spring, WSOC reported that two people were arrested after a shooting on Mott Road. Around the same time, Iredell Free News detailed other investigations that also left people hospitalized.
So far, officials have not said that any of those earlier cases are connected to the Serviceberry Way incident.

According to WCCB Charlotte, Guerrero faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
Prosecutors will decide whether to pursue formal indictments. As of Thursday night, authorities had not released information on Guerrero’s bond or arraignment schedule. The Mooresville Police Department says the investigation remains active and that more details will be released when available.
