A CBS News Chicago crew was attacked Monday afternoon on the lakefront near the Adler Planetarium as they prepared to go live for the 4 p.m. newscast. Two men in a truck rushed at a reporter and a photographer and shouted racial slurs, according to the station's account.
According to CBS News Chicago, the crew was setting up for a live shot when the men approached. The station shared a short video of the encounter but did not include any information about injuries, arrests or whether Chicago police responded.
Where It Happened

Context: News Crews And Safety
Incidents involving field reporters in Chicago are not new, a reminder that working on the street with cameras rolling can carry real risks. In 2023, a Los Angeles Times article described a Univision crew that was robbed at gunpoint while covering a series of robberies.

The post from CBS News Chicago did not say whether police were notified, whether any suspects had been identified or if anyone was hurt.
