Kauai firefighters spent a long Wednesday chasing flames on opposite sides of the island, as two unrelated house fires caused more than $1.8 million in estimated damage. An early-morning blaze near Anini Beach on the north shore was followed by an evening fire in the Kapaa/Kapahi area. No injuries were reported in either incident, and both scenes were cleared after overhaul while investigators work to pin down how the fires started.
North Shore Home Near Anini Beach Heavily Damaged
The first call came in shortly after 6:20 a.m. on June 10 for a house fire near the end of Anini Road. Kaua‘i Fire Department units arrived just before 6:40 a.m. and were able to bring the blaze under control, with the scene cleared shortly before 9 a.m. Preliminary estimates put structural damage at about $1.45 million and contents at roughly $75,000, figures that came from a preliminary account by local officials, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Evening Fire Hits Kapaa's Kapahi Neighborhood
Roughly 12 hours later, firefighters were called to a separate house fire in the Kapahi area of Kapaa, reported just after 6:30 p.m. Crews arrived shortly before 6:40 p.m. and cleared the scene shortly after 8:20 p.m. The single-story Kapaa residence sustained an estimated $304,000 in damage. According to the initial report, "No one was reported injured in either fire," as noted by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
