
A 23-year-old motorcyclist from St. Johns was killed Saturday when his bike collided with an SUV on U.S. 1 near Wells Creek Parkway in the Bartram Springs area of Jacksonville, according to authorities. Emergency crews shut down the northbound lanes for several hours while troopers worked the scene, backing up evening traffic. Officials have not released the rider’s name, saying they are waiting to notify family.
As reported by the Florida Times-Union, the rider was 23 and lived in St. Johns. Investigators are still trying to determine what led to the collision between the motorcycle and the SUV.
Crash and response
The Florida Highway Patrol told Action News Jax the crash happened on Philips Highway at Wells Creek Parkway, north of Race Track Road. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office issued an alert around 4:15 p.m. stating that northbound lanes were closed while troopers processed the scene.

The collision is the latest deadly crash in Duval County this year. Duval County has now recorded 90 traffic fatalities in 2026, including 24 pedestrian deaths and seven hit-and-runs, according to News4Jax reporting on Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office data.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation and asked anyone with information to contact authorities. Officials have not said whether charges will be filed as the probe continues, according to the Florida Times-Union.
