An early Monday drive on one of Vancouver's busiest corridors turned deadly when a car jumped the roadway and slammed into a tree in the center median on East Mill Plain Boulevard near East Reserve Street, according to authorities. The male driver was rushed to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
The single-vehicle wreck happened just before 2 a.m., KPTV reported. Police told the station they believe impairment played a role and said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The Vancouver Police Department's Traffic Unit is handling the case, and officials have not released additional information about what led up to the crash.
Where it happened
According to the City of Vancouver, Mill Plain Boulevard is considered a key east–west corridor and is part of the city's long‑range planning for the Fourth Plain and Mill Plain corridors. City planners say those stretches of road call for broader policy and safety strategies aimed at balancing traffic flow with multi‑modal travel.
Investigation
Vancouver police said the driver has not yet been publicly identified as the Traffic Unit continues to examine the scene and the vehicle. Investigators are still working the case, and no further details have been released, KPTV reported.
