One of Waikiki’s most recognizable landmarks is back in the spotlight. Hilton Hawaiian Village has wrapped a major refresh of its iconic Rainbow Tower, unveiling reworked guest rooms and spruced-up public spaces just as summer travel heats up. The resort says the reimagined tower is designed to blend modern comfort with Hawaiian-inspired art and family-friendly amenities, and that guests can now book the updated rooms for summer stays.
What the project delivered
According to Pacific Business News, the two-phase overhaul cost roughly $83 million and bumped the tower’s inventory to 822 guest rooms after small suite-to-room conversions added 26 units. The outlet reports that the work modernized guestrooms, corridors and finishes while keeping the building’s signature rainbow motif firmly in place.
Owner's capital plan and the next tower
Park Hotels & Resorts, which owns the resort, notes that the Rainbow Tower renovation wrapped as part of its first-quarter capital program. The company also says it expects to kick off a roughly $96 million renovation of the Aliʻi Tower in the third quarter of 2026. Park’s filings show the Rainbow Tower work is bundled into broader Hawaii capital projects aimed at repositioning flagship properties for higher-rate group and leisure business.
Design, art and anniversary push
Business Wire reports that Hilton collaborated with Hawaiʻi-based artists to refresh room interiors, pairing the design overhaul with the resort’s 65th anniversary. The company is rolling out a "65 Years of Aloha" package tied to the relaunch. “Few landmarks capture the spirit of a destination the way the Rainbow Tower does for Waikiki,” Hilton Hawaiian Village general manager Kyle Anger said in the release.
Guests and bookings
The hotel’s official site is promoting anniversary offers and spotlighting the newly renovated Rainbow Tower among its updated room options, signaling that the property is pushing its refreshed inventory into the peak summer travel window. Travelers can check rates and packages through the Hilton Hawaiian Village site.
Local context
The timing is no accident. The renovation arrives as hotels across Hawaii pour money into upgrades to capture rebounding group and leisure demand. It also follows a high-profile 40-day UNITE HERE Local 5 strike at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in late 2024 that briefly disrupted operations, as reported by Hawaii News Now. Both the recent labor wins and the tower’s shiny new look will be watched closely by Waikiki operators and travelers as the island heads into its busy season.
