A fast-moving warehouse fire behind Furniture Plus on North Marine Boulevard in Jacksonville, N.C., sent a thick plume of smoke over the city’s northside Wednesday afternoon and brought traffic on a busy stretch of road to a standstill. The blaze was reported around 1:15 p.m., pulling in multiple fire crews from across the area. Store staff later took to social media to reassure customers that everyone at the location was okay.
According to WITN, the fire started in a warehouse behind Furniture Plus and appeared to push into the showroom, with smoke clearly visible from the storefront. Jacksonville units were joined by firefighters from Camp Lejeune and Pumpkin Center as crews worked to get the flames under control.
Road closures and local impact
North Marine Boulevard was closed between Onslow Drive and Bell Fork Road while firefighters remained on scene, snarling traffic along one of Jacksonville’s main commercial corridors. The warehouse sits directly behind Furniture Plus, which lists its showroom at 817 N. Marine Blvd.
Recent blazes along Marine Boulevard
This is not the first major fire along that stretch of Marine Boulevard this spring. On April 5, a vacant warehouse roof fire in the area also drew mutual-aid resources, as reported by WITN. Those calls have kept local fire crews busy with large-structure blazes in the corridor.
