Wetzel's Pretzels has quietly slipped into the Walmart Supercenter on Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach, giving shoppers one more reason to linger near the front of the store. The compact bakery counter brings the chain's grab-and-go pretzels to a busy suburban hub, slotting into a small space instead of a full storefront and joining the Supercenter's existing food options.
According to QSR Web, the new setup sits at 9990 Belvedere Road and is run by multi-unit franchisee Sid Kapur, who joined Wetzel's in 2020 and now oversees 14 locations. A company press release cited by QSR Web notes that Kapur was attracted to the brand for its ability to fit into different kinds of retail spaces, from small counters like this one to larger footprints.
Store-within-store push
Wetzel's has been leaning hard into a store-within-store strategy, tucking compact bakeries into high-traffic retailers instead of rolling out only traditional shops. As Restaurant Dive reports, the chain has been testing co-branded and other nontraditional placements, from department stores to convenience-focused spots, as a way to speed up growth without the higher costs of standalone builds.
What This Means For Franchise Growth
Wetzel's now operates in more than 500 locations nationwide, and the West Palm Beach kiosk is one of several recent openings that highlight the brand's faster and lower-cost expansion approach, per QSR Web. Industry observers point out that compact formats and co-branding can help operators stretch their budgets, cut buildout costs and tap into multiple dayparts, which helps explain the chain's growing presence in big-box aisles and mall corridors.
Wetzel's recent co-brand partnership with Cold Stone Creamery is another piece of that strategy, using flexible real estate to give franchisees more ways to bring in revenue, according to Bake Magazine.
