Black smoke rose over Akron yesterday as a fire broke out at Holub Recycling, sending a major firefighting response to the city’s North Arlington area and drawing attention from neighborhoods across town.
The fire was reported at the recycling facility at 470 N. Arlington St., where the Akron Fire Department deployed 12 units, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Photos from the scene showed crews working around the property as a thick plume climbed above the industrial site.
Cause And Injuries Were Not Immediately Reported
Initial reports available yesterday evening did not identify what started the fire or report any injuries. Officials also had not released a final damage assessment for the facility.

Holub Recycling Had A Major Fire In 2023
Yesterday's incident echoes a large fire at the same Akron facility in October 2023. Cleveland 19 News reported that firefighters then found roughly 100 to 150 cars burning across about 200 square yards.
That earlier response involved long hose lines and elevated streams, according to the report. For yesterday's fire, the confirmed details remained the location, the 12-unit deployment and the scene captured in photographs, while the cause and full extent of damage were still unsettled.
