A routine domestic disturbance call in Allen Township, Northampton County, ended in deadly gunfire Friday afternoon, leaving a 27-year-old man dead and a 25-year-old man in custody, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Troopers say the younger man is expected to face criminal charges in connection with the homicide.
Troopers were called to the scene
State police say troopers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Old Gate Road around 1:48 p.m. for a reported domestic incident. When they arrived, they found a 27-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to NBC10 Philadelphia.
Investigators say a 25-year-old man had already left the residence, driving off in a 2023 orange Kia Forte. Troopers later spotted the car near Race Street and Airport Road and tried to pull it over, which led to what officials described as a brief pursuit.
Pursuit ended at the residence
The chase did not last long. According to Daily Voice, the Kia circled back to the Old Gate Road home, where the driver was taken into custody without incident.
Northampton Regional EMS transported the wounded 27-year-old to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m., officials said. Authorities have not yet publicly released his name.
Charges and legal status
State police have not identified either the victim or the 25-year-old man who was detained, but investigators say the younger man is expected to face criminal charges tied to the shooting, according to NBC10 Philadelphia. Prosecutors are set to review the case while the Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Major Case Team continues to gather evidence.
Investigation underway
The Troop M Major Case Team is leading the homicide investigation with help from the Northampton County District Attorney's Office, the Troop M Forensic Services unit, the Collision Analysis unit, and Northampton Regional EMS, according to Daily Voice.
State police say the investigation remains active, and additional details are expected to be released as the case moves forward.
