A 23-year-old man is in critical but stable condition after being shot six times Wednesday night in Philadelphia’s Point Breeze neighborhood. The gunfire broke out just before 9 p.m. at 23rd and Dickinson streets as, police say, the man was putting a dirt bike into an alley.
What police say
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, investigators say two men stepped out of a dark gray sedan and opened fire, then took off heading south on 23rd Street. The victim was hit three times in the legs and once each in the stomach, scrotum and groin, police said.
Officers recovered 39 spent shell casings at the scene, which investigators say came from two different firearms. Police have not yet identified a motive.
How to help
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be shared with the Philadelphia Police Department by calling 215-686-TIPS (8477) or by submitting an anonymous tip through the online form at the Philadelphia Police Department. Detectives are canvassing the area and urging neighbors to review doorbell or security-camera footage for anything that might help the investigation.
Neighborhood context
The shooting adds to a violent stretch in Philadelphia this summer, including a triple shooting in Brewerytown over the July Fourth weekend that sent three people to the hospital, as reported by CBS Philadelphia. Point Breeze also saw a fatal shooting in May, according to KYW Newsradio, underscoring recent violence in the neighborhood.
This is a developing story. Police say the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been reported.
