A woman wearing an AT&T uniform was arrested in Middleburg Heights after police tied her to a Chevrolet Traverse reported stolen in Cleveland. The 18-year-old Euclid woman reportedly told investigators she took the SUV because she needed a vehicle to get to work.
A suspicious-vehicle call led officers to the Traverse, which had been parked outside a Middleburg Heights facility-services company for two days. Cleveland.com reports that surveillance video showed a woman walking from the SUV into an AT&T office, while the vehicle was still sitting there with its keys inside.
Police Found The SUV Outside A Middleburg Heights Business
The location was City Wide Facility Solutions, whose Cleveland operation lists its office at the same Middleburg Heights site. The company’s website identifies the business as a local provider of commercial cleaning and facility services, giving investigators a fixed point to review after the stolen vehicle remained in the lot.
According to Cleveland.com, the woman arrived at the facility at about 9:30 a.m. on July 15 and handed the keys to police. She admitted taking the Traverse and said she had made a poor choice; the SUV was recovered undamaged, and nothing was missing from inside.
The Arrest Also Exposed A Suspended License
Police also learned that the woman’s driver’s license had been suspended. The report described an arrest in the case, but did not indicate that a conviction had occurred.
Under the current Ohio Revised Code, knowingly taking control of property without the owner’s consent is theft, and stealing a motor vehicle is classified as grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. Any additional driving-related allegation would depend on the charges ultimately filed in court.
