A 27-year-old man from Dunmore, Pennsylvania has admitted in court that he tried to drag his ex-girlfriend into a car in Atlantic City while holding a knife, a confrontation that ended only when the woman’s mother jumped in and stopped him. The woman managed to escape, and authorities later detained the man and recovered a folding tactical knife.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, cited by Daily Voice, the defendant was identified as 27-year-old Lucas Moran. The incident unfolded on Sept. 28, when Atlantic City police responded to Adriatic Avenue. After Moran fled the scene, New Jersey State Police located his vehicle on the Atlantic City Expressway and officers detained him, the prosecutor’s office said.

Prosecutors say Moran first dragged the woman into a Chrysler, then pulled a knife and tried to force her back into the vehicle when she got away. As he allegedly tried to pull her inside again, the woman’s mother physically intervened and blocked him from getting her back into the car, giving her daughter the chance to flee. Moran then drove off westbound toward Absecon Boulevard and was later tracked down on the Atlantic City Expressway, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The prosecutor’s office said Moran pleaded guilty Monday to assault under a plea agreement that carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced in September, Daily Voice reported. When Moran was detained, authorities said they found a folding tactical knife in his possession.
