A quiet Aurora block turned into a crime scene Saturday morning after police say a Country Club Hills woman forced her way into a home on the city’s west side and barricaded herself inside. The incident drew a large emergency response, with crisis negotiators and a special response team spending more than an hour talking her into coming out. No injuries were reported to officers or neighbors, authorities said. The woman was evaluated at a nearby hospital before being booked by Kane County officials, and nearby streets were briefly closed as investigators searched the house.

Police: Forced Entry, Hourlong Standoff

Aurora officers were called around 9:14 a.m. Saturday to the 100 block of South Edgelawn Drive after a neighbor reported suspicious activity and officers found signs of forced entry and someone inside the home, according to the Daily Herald. The department’s Crisis Negotiations Team and Special Response Team were sent to the scene, securing the area while negotiators tried to convince the person to surrender. After roughly an hour, police say, the woman was taken into custody without incident and transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Neighbors Recall Blocked Streets, Heavy Police Presence

Residents across the street found themselves temporarily shut out of their own block as the standoff played out, describing a cluster of squad cars, police tape and flashing lights. “Street was blocked off, tons of cops, and then, yeah, we couldn't get in,” neighbor Reece Wagner told CBS Chicago. Police reopened the roadway once investigators finished processing the home and cleared the area.

Charges And Next Court Date

Police identified the woman as 28-year-old Kendra Presley of Country Club Hills. She faces multiple charges, including residential burglary, theft and misdemeanor counts of criminal damage and trespass, according to local reports. Kane County records show Presley has been processed into the county facility and is scheduled to appear in court later this week. The theft charge is listed as involving more than $500 but not more than $10,000, according to the Chicago Tribune. As with any arrest, Presley is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Police Ask For Tips

Aurora police urged anyone with information or video from the area to contact the department’s Investigations Division at 630-256-5500 and emphasized there was no ongoing threat to the public, according to an Aurora Police Department news release and local coverage. Investigators also pointed residents toward Aurora Area Crime Stoppers for anonymous tips, noting the case remains active and more information will be released as it is confirmed.

Detectives are still working to determine what led up to the break-in and barricade and have publicly thanked neighbors for their patience and cooperation during the response, the Daily Herald reports. Anyone with additional tips or footage from the area is asked to come forward so investigators can continue tracking down leads.
