Last Saturday night, a ride-along on Arlington Avenue E East ended in tragedy when a motorcycle collided with an 18-wheeler, killing the rider and injuring his passenger, according to police. The crash happened at about 9 p.m. in the 3900 block of Avenue E East and threw both the rider and a female passenger from the bike. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and declined to be taken to a hospital.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Arlington police said the motorcycle was traveling eastbound around a curve when it hit the side of the 18-wheeler as the truck attempted to turn left out of a store parking lot. The victim was identified as 47-year-old Luis A. Mendez by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Police told the paper Mendez was not wearing a helmet, and that the truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
