A routine fire call on the north side of Commerce City turned into something far more disturbing on Monday, when first responders discovered a burned body in a backyard near Barr Lake State Park.
Commerce City police officers and South Adams County Fire Department crews had been dispatched to a report of a grass fire behind a home in the 11700 block of Ouray Court. When they got there, they found a charred body in the burn area, according to FOX31 Denver. The discovery rattled neighbors in the otherwise quiet, more remote stretch of the city.
Investigators Keep Tight Lid on Details
Police have not said how the body ended up in the yard or what might have happened, according to the station. Detectives stayed on scene for hours, combing through evidence while investigators worked to confirm the person's identity.
So far, Commerce City police have not released the victim's name or a cause of death. They also have not said whether they are treating the case as suspicious, leaving residents with more questions than answers.
